A bird bath can enhance and enrich your home and lives
Bird bath or birdbath is defined by Wikipedia as an “artificial ‘puddle’ or small shallow pond, created with a water- filled basin” so that birds may bathe, cool off in and drink from it. Obviously bird baths are artificial structures but they have been essential part of many home yards because they complement to the vitality of wildlife in a garden.
For these reasons, a birdbath can serve as a small reflecting pool, a garden ornament and even an outdoor sculpture that provide “micro-habitat” support. On the part of home owners, they find enjoyment upon seeing birds flying and playing around the bird bath.
Hummingbirds
With the passing of time, the forms of birdbaths have evolved so much. Some are designed for specific birds like hummingbirds. Some are made of fiberglass, ceramic stones and metals. Some are inspired by Grecian architectures or designed like fountains. However, the basic structure of birdbaths has remained throughout – that is, there is some water supply somewhere and there’s a basin or pond-like structure somewhere.
The earlier baths for birds mostly had stagnant water in them. But it has been widely known later on that the winged creatures prefer to have falling or moving water in their bird bath. Thus it is no longer surprising to find electricity-powered baths later on.
Solar Birdbath
The preferred type of birdbath these days is the solar birdbath. Because it uses energy from the sunlight, solar powered baths are more economical and practical for daily usage. The current baths also have all sorts of accessories in them. Some are for aesthetic purposes like the aurora water wiggler, which lights up nicely at night.
Bird Feeders
Other bath accessories have altogether separate purposes like the bird feeders. Still, other accessories are for special situations like the birdbath heater which is used to control the water temperature during winter. It is because of this latter device that baths for flying birds can still be used and enjoyed for the whole year around.
Having a birdbath in your home is one way to promote a sound environment. First off, you are providing temporary refuge and comfort to wandering birds. Second, any show of love and protection for the animals is helpful to sustain biodiversity.
Therefore it should not be a strange act as well to take care of your birdbath. It is relatively easy to clean but its tidiness should always be maintained regularly. Most of all, the birds should always have safe and clean water in your bird bath.
