Child Have A Bedwetting Accident? Learn How To Remove Urine Stains From The Mattress

admin

If your youngster had an accident in their bed for the first time, you might think that cleaning the mattress with soap and water is the thing to do. While this might help get out the smell, it might not do much for the stain that urine can sometimes leave behind. This guide demonstrates what you can do instead of soap and water to remove both the urine and stain.

Step 1: Grab the Needed Supplies

Get out your measuring cup, funnel, dish washing liquid, rubber gloves, old towel and a tablespoon. Other items you'll need include baking soda, an eight-ounce bottle of hydrogen peroxide and a spray bottle.

Step 2: Blot up the Urine

Put on your rubber gloves, and then use an old towel to blot up the urine. Don't rub the urine into the mattress as this can create a bigger stain as it spreads. As an alternate, grab a bunch of paper towels to blot with. Throw the towels and gloves away when you are no longer able to blot up any more urine.

Step 3: Mix the Ingredients

Using the funnel, pour the bottle of hydrogen peroxide in the spray bottle and add few tablespoons of baking soda. Then place one drop of dish washing liquid into the bottle.

Tighten the lid on the spray bottle and swirl the bottle around. Don't shake the bottle.

Step 4: Apply the Mixture to the Mattress

Liberally spray the mixture on the mattress and allow it to dry. There is no need to rub it in or wipe it down. The stain will dissipate as the mixture is drying.

Once the stain is gone, pour the remaining mixture down the drain or choose your own method of discarding it. Another option is to store the remaining mixture in the brown bottle that the hydrogen peroxide came in. Doing so will prevent oxidation of the hydrogen peroxide, which could turn it into plain water.

Step 5: Vacuum Away the Residue

Check to see if there is any baking soda film on the mattress after it dries. If so, connect the furniture attachment to your vacuum cleaner and vacuum away the film. You can wipe it off with a dry towel also, if you prefer.

Ensure that the mattress is completely dry before placing the sheets back on, and certainly before allowing your child to sleep in the bed.
